How to email your complaints to big media
Add to this list and report problems. It will be updated.
With so many media failures surrounding us, how do we bring our complaints to the big news organizations? That’s one of the questions I’m asked most frequently as I explore these systemic problems.
The answer: I have a system for you to reach news executives. And fortunately, people inside news agencies tell me it’s working.
The key is for you to email publicly listed addresses for the news agencies you want to reach. When you do, be sure to cc They Stand Corrected at this address: TSC@joshlevs.com. Note: This is not an address for contacting me in general; your message might only get through if this address is in the cc field and you are messaging a news agency. (There are two ways to reach me directly: via this platform for paid subscribers, and a form at my website for anyone.)
Why cc?
It’s important that the news agency see you are copying in They Stand Corrected. The possibility that their journalistic failures may get public attention makes executives pay much more attention.
I try to check out the complaints you send in. I can then send your message to lots of people inside these news agencies (either via forward or bcc reply all). I have contact info for lots of people inside these news agencies, including executives. But it would not be helpful to make that public.
Listeners to the podcast and subscribers to this newsletter have been asking me for a list of publicly available email addresses. So here it is, below, subject to change and be updated over time. If you have other publicly listed email addresses to add, post that information in the comments or via a message to me here (paid subscribers).
This list is just a start. I’ll add more based on your requests, etc.! And as you may know, They Stand Corrected focuses primarily on big “mainstream” news outlets that try to present themselves as nonpartisan. (MSNBC is an exception; I discussed why in Episode 36, The Media Fail Awards. And state-owned propaganda operations from autocratic regimes, like the Qatari government’s Al Jazeera, aren’t worth trying to reach.)
Thanks and big love,
JL
