Remember the Biden administration, when Republican lawmakers were screaming about the dangers of raising the debt ceiling? Apparently, neither do many of them. The One (true) Big (yup) Beautiful (no) Bill raises it another $5 trillion.

Meanwhile, as the nightmare continues in Texas, with parents desperately searching for their children missing after the floods — there are no words. (Saying my heart goes out to these folks, or thoughts and prayers, feels trite. I told a friend in rural Texas that I’d jump in a helicopter with her to help search if I thought it would help and not get in the way.)
