A giant figure you won't hear in the news
Media refuse to acknowledge the scope of one of the biggest problems on Earth
To all suffering through the fires across L.A., thoughts with you. For an upcoming episode, let me know the most productive ways for people to help. And I’m keeping an eye on the role of the media, so let me know what you’re seeing from news agencies that’s helpful or problematic. Now on with the latest episode…
Why won’t the media just state certain truths? Because those truths conflict with their preferred false victim narratives.
On this episode of They Stand Corrected (available on all podcast platforms), I explain why a recent deadly terrorist attack in New Orleans is representative of the overwhelming majority of attacks worldwide.
Fondapol, the Foundation for Political Innovation, found that between 2013 and 2024, more than 56,000 Islamist attacks took place. Islamist attacks represent more than 84% of terrorist attacks since 1979.
While I can’t possibly go through all the raw data myself, I can do basic math — and that figure is most likely an undercount.
I also correct the kind of thing you’ve heard many times over the years: A network “news” host sitting there while a very popular figure claims that “every” Muslim organization “throughout the world” condemns terrorism. This is a dangerous lie. The world must confront the massive proliferation of Islamist terrorism and its massive levels of support.
According to one expansive study, “52 Percent of all Arabs favor terrorism against the United States.” That study is from 2017. Since then, support for terrorism seems to have grown even more.
Even in the United States, 21% of Muslims call the Oct. 7, 2023 terrorist massacres by Hamas against Israel “acceptable.”
Of course this does not mean all Muslims or Arabs. To hear from some of the many fantastic people in Arab nations working for a more peaceful world, listen to my interviews with leaders of Sharaka in episodes 30 and 34.
In the latest episode, I also explain that the media was quick to point fingers at the government for creating confusion in early announcements about whether the New Orleans attack was terrorism. (It was.) But they refuse to acknowledge their own failings to consistently call terrorism terrorism.
I share a clip from an early episode I did about this:
