Attack of the Victim Narratives
Trump uses them, Kamala sidesteps them, Dr. Phil calls them out, and Chris Rock provides insight. Plus, the AP breaks its own rules again.
In the final days of the presidential race, Americans are being subjected to a barrage of political messaging. Within all that messaging lies a huge story the media is missing: Our politics, media, and culture have been overtaken by victim narratives. They come in very different forms on the right and left, and can be equally dangerous.
While Trump and his movement capitalize on “hijacked victimhood” (here’s the study I mention), Kamala has largely been sidestepping the preferred victim narratives of the left. In this episode, an expert who understands political “branding” explains how that could affect the outcome. Along the way, we hear from Chris Rock and Dr. Phil.
Plus, the AP breaks its own rules yet again, this time to slam Shai Davidai, a Columbia professor who is standing up to antisemitism and the media.
Also in this episode, I attempt to read some of your messages in response to my October 7 keynote address. You can watch, listen to, or read it here:
Here’s a 90-second clip, up on my Instagram, in which I discuss victimhood:
What you can do
Subscribe, rate and review! We live in a world of algorithms, and those actions make a huge difference. Review/rate at Apple Podcasts, Spotify, now Audible and more.
Lots of listeners have followed my suggestion of writing emails to top executives at news outlets demanding better. Be sure to cc me so the executives know that I might report on their journalistic failures. In general I don’t include email addresses in these newsletters, but if you have trouble finding them online then message me! I have lists.
Also, share this newsletter. The more people learn about They Stand Corrected, the more news executives realize they have to take action.
