Welcome to all the new listeners and subscribers. So great to have you here.
In the new episode: A listener asked me to take on the media’s role in fueling Republican attacks against Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan D.A. who led the recent prosecution of former President Trump. At first, I figured it would be a relatively quick fact check. But when I looked into it, I discovered that it highlights a big problem in the media that I had not yet even touched on.
It's an issue that affects you as a news consumer, but it could also affect you if you ever find yourself in the news. What happened here could also happen to you.
Here’s a link I mention from Politifact.
Also in today’s episode:
A “journalist” is accused of holding Israeli captives in Gaza
Al Jazeera’s endless hypocrisy
CNN’s biased headline
and what the National Review got right about the Washington Post
More on all that in tomorrow’s newsletter, so be sure to subscribe.
As for the attacks on Alvin Bragg, if you see or hear a news report that includes these attacks without stating what he actually said during his campaign, send a message like this to the top executives at the news agency:
As the podcast They Stand Corrected has explained, rather than simply carrying GOP attacks against Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg, the media should explain what actually happened during his campaign. In the podcast, fact checker Josh Levs offers the kind of language and key points that news organizations like yours should include in order to provide the truth.
Meanwhile, the first presidential debate is this week. A big thank you to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution for running this piece from me.
The column is mostly behind a paywall, but you can just jump over to my episode and newsletter about why political debates are so disastrous for truth. If you haven’t listened to that one yet, be sure to check it out (Episode 9).
More coming tomorrow!
See you then,
