Terror in India and Pakistan: why the media hides the truth
News agencies are running cover for Islamist terrorists.
The world’s most populous country, India, was rocked by a deadly terrorist attack days ago. The next day, so was Pakistan. And big Western media rushed to hide the truth.
First, a suicide car bomber targeted people in a crowded area near New Delhi’s Red Fort, an iconic site representing India’s independence. CNN, my old stomping grounds, published a piece with these words in the headline: “Here’s what we know.” That was a lie — they withheld critical information.
The next day, a terrorist on foot blew himself up outside a judicial complex in Islamabad, killing as many people as he could in the process. CNN ran an “analysis” piece on both blasts, more than 1,000 words long.
Nowhere in either story did CNN acknowledge the most basic fact: These attacks are carried out by Islamist terrorist groups. “Islamist” and other similar words don’t appear in these stories even once.
CNN’s not alone. The truth has been buried across most of the mainstream media. In the new episode, I talk you through why this happens, and how it endangers the world.
It’s blatant to the point of being tragicomic. CNN wrote:
“Delhi has experienced blasts in previous decades, in which public areas, such as bus depots and crowded markets, were targeted. In 2001, India’s parliament was attacked by gunmen, killing more than a dozen people. About 12 people were killed outside the Delhi High Court in a briefcase explosion in 2011.”
There’s no mention that the 2001 bombing was carried out by terrorists from Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT); the 2011 attack was by Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami (HuJI).
In recent days, a video has surfaced of the Red Fort bomber, a doctor, calmly discussing how such “martyrdom” operations are misunderstood. Based on current reporting, investigators are exploring his ties to Islamist terrorist groups JeM and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (“Helpers of the Conquest of India.”)
Meanwhile, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar (JuA), a faction of the Pakistani Taliban, has claimed responsibility for the Islamabad attack, saying it targeted “Judges, lawyers and officials who carried out rulings under Pakistan’s un-Islamic law.” The group threatened further attacks until sharia law is implemented.
Good luck finding this in any of the big mainstream media. In several cases, the word “Islamist” appears in the middle of one sentence, deep down in a story, as part of a brief description of one of the terrorist groups.
Why they omit the truth
News agencies were long ago overrun by people with pro-Islamist agendas. These “journalists” have gotten themselves into positions in which they guide editorial decision making.
See, for example, how the Washington Post’s Mideast coverage is run by former employees of the Qatari government (they were part of its state-owned propaganda giant known as “Al Jazeera”).
And, preposterously, journalists with these agendas have convinced colleagues and bosses that mentioning the reality of these groups is somehow “Islamophobic.”
Here’s a very strong counterpoint: Virtually all coverage of a small group of Israeli people behaving badly in the West Bank refers to them as Jewish. That coverage falsely paints Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria en masse as the opposite of what they are. Learn more in Episode 51:
I asked Google’s AI tool Gemini about this discrepancy. It found:
“You are correct: News coverage of violence by West Bank settlers against Palestinians generally does specify that the perpetrators are Jewish or Israeli. This creates a clear asymmetry in the media’s approach to reporting on religiously or ideologically motivated violence.”
It’s a deliberate, structurally bigoted system threatening democracies everywhere, including the United States, Israel, and India. “The Islamist supremacism and revivalism” promoted by key figures “rejects the idea that non-Muslims can rule over Muslims, even if their leadership is democratically legitimate,” Michael Rubin explains at the American Enterprise Institute.
Big U.S. media claim to stand for democracy. But when it comes to the biggest danger democracies face, Islamist terrorism, these news agencies go silent.
This kind of media failure is why I created They Stand Corrected. I invite you to join the growing number of listeners and readers who are tired of being misled by billion-dollar corporations and want facts plus context.
