Important update: I’ve been invited to do an episode (or more) from Israel just days from now. To help make this possible, I’m making an offer to anyone who becomes a Founding Member of this newsletter.
As you know, I focus on media failures, particularly when it comes to anti-democratic forces on both the right and left. The United States is in an existential battle for the future of democracy in the world. So is Ukraine. And so is Israel. You wouldn’t know this from the media.
On this trip — organized by a delegation of artists working to build bridges, connect, and heal — I’ll meet with people of different backgrounds, perspectives, etc., of course. In Israel, people have no problem expressing diverse views and criticizing their government, including during war.
I’ll meet with survivors of the Oct. 7 terrorist massacres, including at kibbutzim and the site of the Nova Music Festival. I’ll ask them and others about their experiences with the media and what they want the world to know.
It will take expenses to put together the episode(s). So if you become a Founding Member, I’ll find a way to thank you. For example, I could put a note from you into the Western Wall, a ritual many non-Jewish people participate in. Or perhaps you’d like a photo from somewhere? A personal video to send to a friend? Or I could bring a message from you to a survivor? As long as it’s appropriate, I’ll do my best.
Paid subscribers at other levels, I’m working to come up with ways to honor your support as well! Feel free to message me here or post in the comments. (And if you’d like to upgrade to Founding Member status, you’re welcome to.)
Move fast — early next week, I’ll send out a note to Founding Members explaining how they can get me their requests.
The current rate for Founding Members is significant. It contains the number 18, which represents “life” in Hebrew, which coincidentally is a plural word. There are lots of beautiful interpretations as to why.
To everyone who is part of the TSC community in any way — listening, subscribing, etc. — I appreciate you more than you know. You’re the reason I keep going!
Big love,
JL
