No news agency should give people “open mic nights” to lie, no matter where they are on the political spectrum. That’s the opposite of journalism. Right-wing media figures should not spread myths; neither should left-wing ones. That’s why no one committed to truth should be mourning MSNBC’s decision to let go of one of its prominent hosts, Joy Reid. I explain this in the new episode out today.
Also, listeners have been asking me why the media is refusing to distinguish good from evil in coverage of the horrific slaughter of the Bibas children and their mother. I play clips proving that the media can and does call things evil — but not consistently. That explains these latest journalistic fiascoes.
This is a “minisode,” a brief dispatch. I’ve been on the road at a bunch of speaking events, busting myths about dads and combating the media’s systemic, antisemitic anti-Israel bias.
More to come on all that. In the meantime, here are some links I mention about Joy.
It’s crucial that the mainstream media call out lies on the left as much as lies on the right. But in the coverage of MSNBC’s shakeup, I haven’t seen any of that.
For a sign of how off the rails her show was, check out my two-parter on her disastrous “interview” with the queen of an actual monarchy:
And this from Instagram:
To be clear, there’s no reason to believe that Joy’s record of lying and platforming lies had anything to do with the network’s decision. But it could be a step in the right direction.
Still, MSNBC and all other news outlets should be as vigilant as ever in fighting lies from Trumpworld. For some great examples of this, listen to Lawrence O’Donnell in Episode 20 and Rachel Maddow in Episode 25.
