In this final episode before the election, a warning: Election Night coverage is largely designed to manipulate you. To take you on an emotional rollercoaster. I explain what you’d be better off doing during the first few hours, and why the early results can suggest the opposite of what’s really happening.
But first, a fiasco as the billionaire owners of the L.A. Times (Patrick Soon-Shiong) and Washington Post (Jeff Bezos) block their editorial boards’ endorsements of Kamala Harris. I answer your questions about why this matters, including for the fight against fascism on the right and the far left.
I share what I’m hearing from inside the Post, including hypocrisy involving the paper’s extreme anti-Israel bias. (Speaking of which, your responses to my Oct. 7 speech are leaving me, ironically, speechless. Thank you.)
Plus something I discovered: There are serious questions about whether at least one of these owners knows what his role is at the paper — and whether his staff knows what he thinks his role is.
Much of the news coverage has failed to explain what these endorsements even are. They come from editorial boards, which I discussed in Episode 14.
Huge numbers of people are canceling subscriptions to the Post. That’s a very good call for multiple reasons. I canceled mine a while back, as well as my NYT subscription. I can still access articles in full, for free. My paid subscribers here get tips and tricks like this:
Also in Episode 30, a bonus section. You’ll hear why. It’s something positive and hopeful that has nothing to do with the election: Meet Fatema Alharbi, a Bahraini athlete standing up to haters and building relationships with Israelis through a group called Sharaka. Big media, of course, refuse to cover them.
I mention that I’ll share some images to help get you through Election Night. Those will come in the next newsletter, so be sure to subscribe.
